The DMSR series of Windows tablets are rugged, waterproof, built for outdoor

We have seen tablets costing a mere Rs 3,000 which offer you cheap electronics, old chipsets and smaller screen sizes in the market. However, have you checked out this exorbitantly expensive Windows tablet from Xplore Technologies.

The Xplore tablets are one of the most rugged tablets made for industrial purposes, highly suitable for military and outdoor use. These tablets are powered using Intel’s fourth-generation Core i5 processors for faster speeds along with a rugged exterior. Apart from being waterproof, dustproof and fire-resistant, these tablets sports a multi-touch resistive display which offers better usability even in wet conditions.

The Xplore Technologies has a range of tablets, which start from around $3,000 and go right up to $5,500 and even higher in some cases. Calculate it in Indian currency and this is a staggering amount, between Rs 1.8 Lakh to Rs 3.5 Lakh. Key features of the tablet are MIL-STD-810G Certified and IP67 rating, Highest Drop Rating: 7 feet, Dust Proof and Fully Submersible, Operating Temperatures between -30°F to 140°F (Cold start: -4°F) and UL1604 and ATEX Certified for Hazardous Areas.

The XC6 DMSR model is the most expensive of them all. The tablet runs on Windows 8.1 Professional operating system (optional Windows 7) and is fuelled by a powerful battery which can run up 10.5 hours at a stretch. The internals are kept cool using an active cooling system to maintain efficiency.

Connectivity options also include two USB 3.0 ports, a 9-pin serial RS232 port, standard VGA and DVI ports, microSD and microSIM card slots, a proprietary docking port, and the standard headphone and mic jacks. Security features include a fingerprint scanner too.

Cameras included on the tablet are a 5MP on the rear which can also read barcodes, and a 720p HD camera for the front. Additional accessories that can be opted with the tablet are vehicle docking systems and custom carry cases. The tablet weighs just 2.4 Kg and is 1.6-inches thick. The tablet carries a three-year warranty period which can be extended up to five years at an additional cost.

The tablet is built so rugged that it can withstand heavy shocks, falls, humidity, heat, cold, water, latitudes, crashes, salt water, fungus solar radiation, rain, storm, fog and a lot more.

It does not look like these tablets will be available anytime soon in India, and even if it does, there would be no takers. However, if you are looking for a super-rugged and super-fast Windows tablet on earth, we told you where to look.
