High-security warning for Apple products

Centre issues warning about multiple vulnerabilities' that could make the devices prone to a security attack

HYDERABAD: The Centre on Friday issued a high-security warning for Apple products citing ‘multiple vulnerabilities’ that could make the devices prone to a security attack. These vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to take control of the device by tampering with the privileges or bypassing security restrictions.

The CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in a note said that multiple vulnerabilities existed in Apple products due to certificate validation issues in the security component, issues in the kernel, and errors in the WebKit component.

The attack could be through a malicious attachment or a website, allowing the attacker to access the personal files and information of the user, or may allow installing malware in the system.

The iOS versions before 16.7 were the most exploited ones amongst other versions that were affected including Mabcooks, watches, iPads, and iPhones.

Apple has given a fix for the security issues through the software on the CERT website cert-in.org.in for the respective devices at risk.
